Hello Everyone, over the years I've thought about what Science fiction has meant to me and how I connect with it. For me, my main interest has been in exploring and going beyond what we know. I get a thrill and a almost complete satisfaction from exploring beyond the depths of our current society, it's government, standards, societies, and members. In a way I believe it stems from my belief in freedom, and in a broader sense than the American spin. I believe in something more universal that isn't interfered with or tainted by Christian or other religious belief. A freedom that understands what it means to be human, what we are, the logic behind it, how our brains really operate, what freewill really is, and what disorders really are. Something that sees disorders as problems to be overcome instead of evils to be punished. I understand our system is still developing, but I feel as if it is taking some backwards turns. Regardless, Science fiction helps me connect with these higher emotions and feelings, feelings of pain, adventure, the ability and necessity of problem solving. I hope that someday we can learn from these extremes, when we can see other cultures and see the contrast and learn. When I watch science fiction I am transported to that place where I have complete satisfaction, a place where the rest of the world and it's problems mean nothing. I have a few favorite shows such as Farscape which is truly an amazing adventure that is so easy transport to, or Red Dwarf, it's so out-there, crazy, and funny that I totally love it, most of all, it's remote yet it's adventurous! After all, It's not everyday someone gets invited onto an alien space ship and is allowed to ask questions, assuming of course that nice aliens with spaceships who visit Earth even exist, so it's not always easy for us to explore the Universe and get to know the true ranges of humanity and civilization in general. With Love,~ Paul. ~
